The Sixth Doctor's Vest

I got my sewing machine to work! Though I feel kind of stupid now because the problem was so simple. I didn't put the bobbin case in all the way.

Can you believe this is the first time I have ever finished sewing the clothing item I've started? The only other time I've tried sewing clothing was seven years ago and I grew out of it at camp before we could finish even one piece of my matching lepoard-print shorts and shirt (I'd just seen Josie and the Pussycats).

The first day, I just cut the pattern out of the pattern sheet.
The second day I assembled it. (and took breaks only for toilet usage!)
The third day I hemmed and photographed it.

Total time: eleven hours. And no, I didn't get help with any of it. It's all me.

The coat is going to be worse. I dread it.

By my calculations, this vest cost about $46: each of the two fabrics was $10 a yard, the buttons were about $1, the liner was about $5 a yard, and the liner tape was $4 (though I only used about $0.25 worth). This is not counting labor. If I were to do it for someone else (which I'm not saying I will!) I'd charge at least two dollars an hour unless the sewing machine didn't cooperate again at which point it would be five dollars an hour.

I know the pockets aren't aligned vertically. Don't nag. Also the back right panel is the wrong way around. Oops. Like I said, I'm a sewing n00b.

The only time I used a reference for this was when I went fabric shopping. The rest from memory. That's why the front checkered side is on the wrong side. (I think)
