The Sixth Doctor's Vest by darksporechild The Sixth Doctor's Vest by darksporechild
:w00t: I got my sewing machine to work! Though I feel kind of stupid now because the problem was so simple. I didn't put the bobbin case in all the way.

Can you believe this is the first time I have ever finished sewing the clothing item I've started? The only other time I've tried sewing clothing was seven years ago and I grew out of it at camp before we could finish even one piece of my matching lepoard-print shorts and shirt (I'd just seen Josie and the Pussycats).

The first day, I just cut the pattern out of the pattern sheet.
The second day I assembled it. (and took breaks only for toilet usage!)
The third day I hemmed and photographed it.

Total time: eleven hours. And no, I didn't get help with any of it. It's all me.

The coat is going to be worse. I dread it.

By my calculations, this vest cost about $46: each of the two fabrics was $10 a yard, the buttons were about $1, the liner was about $5 a yard, and the liner tape was $4 (though I only used about $0.25 worth). This is not counting labor. If I were to do it for someone else (which I'm not saying I will!) I'd charge at least two dollars an hour unless the sewing machine didn't cooperate again at which point it would be five dollars an hour.

( :o Seriously, iPod? Stricken by Disturbed followed instantly by Everything Back But You by Avril Lavigne...random is so random.)

I know the pockets aren't aligned vertically. Don't nag. Also the back right panel is the wrong way around. Oops. Like I said, I'm a sewing n00b.

The only time I used a reference for this was when I went fabric shopping. The rest from memory. That's why the front checkered side is on the wrong side. (I think)

Wow, you're better than _me_ anyway...I can't sew for beans. Not sure why anybody WOULD give me beans to sew something, but hey. His vest has spots on it? Huh. This whole time, I was seeing it as kind of a plaidish pattern on one side and sort of zizaggy lines of the same colour on the other. But I like the spots. Looks kinda like the rainbow spacey effects of his theme song...in cloth. :)

LOL yeah it's only spotted because I couldn't find any zigzag fleece!

You've made your waist coat :w00t: Now all I have to do is TRY to catch up... was going to sort out my waist coat pretty soon... but sadly I haven't got a sawing machine... nor would I know what to do even if I had... ^^; I'm having to go to a few different people to get my clothes done... so it's going to cost A LOT more than yours...

But HOPEFULLY I'll have it all together before the end of this year (and that's an extremely hopeful "hopefully")

And good luck with the jacket (it's going to be hell I can tell...)

*wipes sweat from brow* I'm ready.

I've got the liner done(well, almost, I couldn't figure out the sleeves so I figured it was time to stop for the day). It's alright though.

That's good to hear :w00t: keep going...

Apparently the person who is making mine is looking for suitable material first... it'll probebly take a good many months for mine to be done... good job it's not a race... but I still want to buy the whole lot (Who knows... I may one day have to adress him in it ^^;)

My issue is that I have to be in the right mood...which I haven't been for the past few days...

Yeah? Me to a lot of the time (I go out of the mood for a lot of things) take my stories... I was really inspired a short while ago... sat myself infront of the PC, got half a chapter written, then my brain ground to a holt... no I just can't be assed...

Well, at least you can pick up where you left off once you get back in the mood
